Early Life and Horse Racing/Banking
Basil Smith / Anthony Wadsworth(Probus)
Today's speakers were Basil Smith who spoke about his early life and horse racing and Anthony Wadsworth our chairman who spoke about banking as it was.
Basil gave an often humours account of his and his wife's ongoing interest in horses and racing. He recalled a number of horses they had over the years including one that walked sideways. He answered questions from the floor and recommended members to go to the Catterick meeting in July.
Anthony then described the stresses and strains of progressing through a career in banking starting as a junior in 1961 and ending as a senior manager before retirement.
His progress via a number of branches including Huddersfield culminated in a view that the profession now lacks human contact.
