The Probus Club of Meltham, founded in February 1975, is open to men who are retired or semi-retired.
Membership is £20 per annum (pro rata if joining part way through the year), with a £5 joining fee. Meetings are free. Visitors can attend two meetings for free before joining.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, starting at 10:30am at the Liberal Club, Wessenden Head Road, Meltham.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are available prior to the meeting at the modest fee of £1.
Each meeting has a speaker whose varied topics have included:
- The Great American Songbook
- Sport - Peter Slater (retired BBC Sports Presenter)
- Italia Autosport (Ferrari's)
- A 3-part journey through Africa
- The fire and re-building of Windsor Castle
- The battle for Monte Cassino
- Past Times in West Yorkshire
- Fracking
- Queen Victoria - Some surprising and lesser known facts.
In fact, something for everybody.
There are several organised events each year, some recent examples are: visits to the National Memorial Arboretum, the National Space Centre, trips on the Mersey, a visit to Middleham Stables and Catterick Races. There is also an annual a bowling competition with guests from local Probus clubs.
Four meals (two formal dinners and two informal buffets) are held throughout the year.
If nothing else, it gets you out from under her feet!
