Visit to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre
12 members together with 3 wives set off on a wet morning bound for Cheshire.
Fortunately, the weather had improved greatly by the time we reached Jodrell Bank.
We had lunch and a close up look at the giant radio telescope. Then attended a talk
about the development of the site from 1946 to the present date. The telescopes
at Jodrell Bank are now linked with others around the U.K. and all are controlled from here.
The talk took in topics such as light years to measure distance, nebulae, proton
stars etc. some of which was "over our heads".
We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Thanks to Malcolm for making the arrangements.
