B.B.C. Radio sports reporter Peter Slater gave a well crafted presentation
entitled “Do I know who I am?”
The title derived from Peter’s adoption and subsequent adult investigations
into his natural parentage.
He had always known the fact of his adoption and for many years it was a
normal part of his life. And as with many adoptees who appreciate their
nurture parents, there was a concern about searching for his origins.
He observed that many of his qualities were not reflected in his family, and he
wanted to see if his natural parents had some of these.
His found his Irish mother and was able develop a somewhat clandestine
relationship with her as she did not want her husband to know about Peter.
This led him to her other son, his half-brother with whom he remains in
contact. He then decided to contact the children of his deceased band-leader
father, also Irish. Peter has been welcomed into the large family of nine half
siblings, confirmed by DNA test. He continues to develop his Irish ties. He is
biologically Irish and English by adoption and residence.
