Our chairman then welcomed today’s speakers Simon Hirst and Mick Jones entitled “Cleaning up the River Holme and Wildlife in Meltham”.
Simon introduced himself as fortunate man doing a job which he loves, he works for the Honley based charity which cares for the river Holme. This care has many different tasks from cleaning the river and removing rubbish, spraying or removing Knot Weed and Japanese Balsom also tree and hedge planting.
Mick introduced himself as a volunteer who monitors and photographs the many birds and animals, we have living in the Meltham area. He showed lots of his photographs, showing herons, owls, curlew, hares, deer and geese to name a few. They also run classes to educate children and assist with tree and hedge planting programmes.
