Today’s speaker was Stuart Atkins on My Life in Music and was a return visit. He told us how he got into music from starting with playing piano then moving to trombone with Flockton brass band. Then got involved with local orchestra dance hall circuit prior to call up. But was told to play trombone at military events with green Howards and even managed time to play at Bettys in York!!
Big jump then to having own orchestra and playing all over world including Batley Variety Club with many big names such as Frankie Vaughan; Jane Mansfield; the Batchelors; Al Martino; Sammy Khan to name just a few.
Also had a girl group for some time with him called cool breeze who eventually went on own. Ended up marrying one called Pattie Gold who also has spoken to us.
