30 Years of Happiness
John Daniel
John gave an amusing and entertaining account of his 30 years in the police force.
Starting with his recruitment and incidents with his uniform - one of which left him indecently exposed in Meltham when the handcuffs attached to his trouser also became attached to the alighting pole as he jumped off the bus.
He described the perils of conducting surveillance from a bush alongside the drive of a large house when one of the lady guests was caught short and ended up splashing his boots. He ended his talk with some interchanges between prosecutor and witness, such as:-
Prosecutor: Was it you or your brother who was killed in the war?
or
Witness: He threatened to kill me.
Prosecutor: And did he?
