Probus Club of Meltham

Todays speaker was Geoff Budd who’s talk was entitled Land of Sand & Oil , it was fascinating insight to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is the 13th largest country in the world which came in to being in 1932, about 1937 oil was discovered which has made it what it is today. In the last 5 years it has opened it self up to non Muslim tourists . Geoff visited 18 months ago and I think there was only 5 in his tour group. It is a very male dominated country but in the last few years some of the laws relating to what women could do regarding working and even being allowed out without permission have changed. He visited Saudi Arabias main city’s Jeddha ,Riyadh ,Mecca and Dadan and showed us some great photos.
