Tea & Not just to drink
Denise Adlard
Today’s speaker was Denise Adlard who gave us an informative and highly entertaining insight into the world of Tea. The origins of tea trace back to China and was discovered in 2737 BC by Emperor Shen Nong when leaves from a tree fell into boiling water. 165 million cups of tea are drunk every day, the UK , Ireland and Turkey being the biggest drinkers of tea . In the early 1900s tea was very expensive so tea caddies were locked to prevent servants stealing the tea.
Denise mentioned the Japanese tea ceremony The Way of the Tea which is almost religious in form.
