Travels in Bulgaria
Barry Hobson
Today's speaker was Barry Hobson, a member of Huddersfield Archeaological Society, who spoke on "Travels in Bulgaria".
Barry gave a talk supported by slides depicting an organised circular trip starting and ending in Sophia covering a span of nearly 5 thousand years of history.
In his words their "very attractive guide Zori" had taken them to many areas of interest ranging from 4750 year old tombs through Roman, Byzantine and the communist period to modern day Bulgaria.
The story of 40 virgins tying their hair together and then jumping off a cliff to avoid the Sultan in Istanbul was particular noted by the audience.
Barry ended by answering member's questions.
