The Battle for Monte Cassino

Today's speaker was Stuart Smith who gave an impressive audio visual presentation on The Battle of Monte Casino in southern Italy 1944 and which was described as the most gruelling battle of the North Africa campaign.

He has researched the battle as his grandfather Fred Dixon was at there and subsequently injured. He described the various stages of the battle graphically using a model of the area and depicting the troop positions of a multinational task force.

The battle was much longer than planned and ended 18th May 1944 with the liberation of Rome.
